I
am coming off of a three-day weekend. Was the time off very productive?
If only I would have listened to "Marty and Sarah Love Wrestling" last
Friday morning, road trip tales would be told. But come on. How often do
you get to sleep in on a weekday?
The
Berwyn Eagles club is a venue that I miss, but purse strings are
wearing thin. There is still C2E2 to attend (Flood these inboxes at Reed
Pop to try and get NinetyForChill.com - The #Podcast a panel [Do not feel guilty. They got my $97.50.] Chris@ReedPop.com; Kristina@ReedPop.com.)
and I have a Disney World trip and you know I am planning to grab a
custom light saber. If anything, the weekend showed me to appreciate
stinginess. Saturday was dedicated solely to the apartment and Sunday
just saw me spend $30 on a movie ticket, popcorn, and a D.P. Dough
calzone.
That
day was a winner because I got a podcast out of it, and I see the D.P.
is still doing the punch cards. It is good to know that I can just walk
in once again and save five bucks. I hate delivery/carryout apps.
After
the weekend, I should at least get more out of the money I currently
spend. The NJPW World on my iPhone would not let me use Chromecast and
the Airplay was dropping in and out with my Apple TV. So I now have a
Fire Stick, Apple TV, and built in Chromecast to my 4K TV (The Fire Stick was a necessary purchase so I am available to troubleshoot everyone I purchased a Fire Stick for.). Saturday this
week is my return for the holidays at my retail gig. Perhaps I have
just made myself the ideal candidate for the home theater department.
The
getting more for my buck is based off of having easy to access NJPW
available to me. If I can kick the YouTube habit, I can just place a
card on and relax. With the new Pokemon game coming out this month,
Young Lion and 10-man tag matches can provide the background noise as I detach the
Switch from the dock. My challenge is kicking that YouTube habit. It
will be tough.
With
TopTenz.net and "Today I Found Out", weird World War II facts are hard to
pass up. If only the turn of the century programs on A&E had more British accents, the
channel would have never become the shit show it is now. I am sorry to
say that about Peter Graves.
Of
course the irony of this is that Ring of Honor is going on a hiatus
after December. Not to say I was watching much ROH (Fuck the assholes at
Sinclair Broadcasting.), but it is sad that the promotion I was
striving to work for during my career hay day (I had just come up with a
championship for guys who get in the ring every five years. We just
need to start up a promotion for it.) possibly vanish.
You
cannot make a TV show out of an indie fed. I have seen some OLD ROH TV
and I have seen what the local marks have produced for public access. FireFighter is such a silly mark since you do not necessarily have to pay to put stuff
on YouTube. It is rare to run into someone who is a self-proclaimed
smark who does not display that smart mark is an oxymoron.
It
turns out that networks cannot produce wrestling. If history is
repeating itself, I would be afraid if I was Impact or AEW. Not only did
WCW go down. ECW followed (technically).
In
the end, I am amazed that vehicle bumpers are a more lucrative business than
syndicated television. Are there that many Toyotas out there? I believe
they are supposedly the most popular car in the world, but I know more people who
are aware of ROH than own a Toyota. Then again, who is not busting their
ass to make Lexus money? Surely the duos below are.
The Unified Gnarly Men's Doubles World Championship
The 141st Unified Gnarly Men's Doubles World Champions:
Raw Tag Team Champions
Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre (9/3/18 to 10/22/18)
The 142nd Unified Gnarly Men's Doubles World Champions:Raw Tag Team Champions
Seth Rollins (3) and Dean Ambrose (Jon Moxley) (2) (10/22/18 to 11/5/18)
The 143rd Unified Gnarly Men's Doubles World Champions:
SmackDown Tag Team Champions
Cesaro (4) and Sheamus (3) (November 5, 2018 to January 27, 2019)
I
am aware of the multiple reigns by The Bar, but the entire point of the
tag team was not having anything for two single stars to do. The same
goes for the former SHIELD members Rollins and Ambrose.
The 144th Unified Gnarly Men's Doubles World Champions:
SmackDown Tag Team Champions
The Miz (3) and Shane McMahon (1/27/19 to 2/17/19)
The 145th Unified Gnarly Men's Doubles World Champions:
KO-D (King of DDT) Tag Team Champions
Mao and Mike "Speedball" Bailey (2/17/19 to 3/21/19)
With DDT, you can rely of everything probably being a hodge podge when it comes to teams, especially when relying on gaijins.
The 146th Unified Gnarly Men's Doubles World Champions:
ROH World Tag Team Champions
PCO and Brody King (3/21/19 to 4/6/19)
Pierre
Carl Ouellet best known affiliation will be with The Quebeckers and The
Amazing French Canadians along side Jacques Rougeau. That tag team
might be considered a duo because Rougeau left his team with brother
Ray.
Some
might say that it is best not to give a title to a team associated with
Marty Scurll, but that is bullshit (If we cheer Luke Wilson for shagging a high schooler in "Old School"...). This decision is based on how long
they could really be a team since PCO was 51 at the time.
The 147th Unified Gnarly Men's Doubles World Champions:
Big Japan Tag Team Champions
Ryota Hama and Yasufumi Nakanoue (4/6/19 to 7/21/19)
When your tag team features a single former sumo wrestler, I do not see continuity.
The 148th Unified Gnarly Men's Doubles World Champions:
NWA World Tag Team Champions
PCO (2) and Brody King (2) (7/21/19 to 9/7/19)
The 149th Unified Gnarly Men's Doubles World Champions:
Raw Tag Team Champions:
Seth Rollins (4) and Braun Strowman (9/7/19 to 9/15/19)
The 150th Unified Gnarly Men's Doubles World Champions:
Raw Tag Team Champions:
Dolph Ziggler (2) and Bobby Roode (2) (9/15/19 to 10/14/19)
The 151st Unified Gnarly Men's Doubles World Champions:
Open the Twin Gate (Dragon Gate) Champions
Eita and Big R Shimizu (10/14/19 to 12/15/19)
The 152nd Unified Gnarly Men's Doubles World Champions:
KOD Tag Team Champions
Daisuke Sasaki and Soma Takao (December 15, 2019 to January 3, 2020)
The 153rd Unified Gnarly Men's Doubles World Champions:
Big Japan Tag Team Champions
Daisuke Sekimoto and Kohei Sato (1/3/20 to 8/10/20)
The 154th Unified Gnarly Men's Doubles World Champions:
SmackDown Tag Team Champions
Cesaro (5) and Shinsuke Nakamura (8/10/20 to 10/9/20)
The 155th Unified Gnarly Men's Doubles World Champions:
IWGP (NJPW) Tag Team Champions
Taichi and Zack Sabre Jr. (October 9, 2020 to January 4, 2021)
This is two single stars coming together. Taichi was a successful Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champion with Yoshinobu Kanemaru.
The 156th Unified Gnarly Men's Doubles World Champions:
Raw Tag Team Champions:
Cedric Alexander and Shelton Benjamin (1/4/21 to 3/15/21)
Benjamin's tag team partner will always be Charlie Haas.
The 157th Unified Gnarly Men's Doubles World Champions:
Impact World Tag Team Champions
David Finley and Juice Robinson (3/15/21 to 5/17/21)
Robinson
has been the premier plug and play partner for NJPW. If he is not part
of FinJuice, he is part of DeathJuice with Sami Callihan.
The 158th Unified Gnarly Men's Doubles World Champions:
Raw Tag Team Champions
AJ Styles (3) and Omos (5/17/21 to 8/21/21)
Rhyno
and his stablemates in Violent by Design would use the Call Your Shot
to challenge a weakened FinJuice. Styles and Omos won their championship
at WrestleMania.
The 159th Unified Gnarly Men's Doubles World Champions:
Raw Tag Team Champions
Randy Orton (2) and (Matt) Riddle (8/21/21 to at least 11/4/21)
With
this title history seemingly completed, I did go and double check the
NXT Tag Team Championship, but they save all their doubles teams for the
Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. Like all commentary revolving around the
WWE, it ends up making you wish Triple H was the next in line when Vince
McMahon passes. Here is hoping for the company to be sold to a
conglomerate and some mark at Disney knows what is best for wrestling.
As
for the DRCW Unified Gnarly Men's Doubles World Championship, the
future looks bright. I do not see the Street Profits challenging until
Styles and Omos and the Dirty Dawgs (Ziggler and Roode) have gotten
their title shots. If anything, Orton and Riddle will be at each others
throats for WrestleMania. This means there should not be a title change
that requires me to look back to Japan to assign the right team until at
least January. You cannot beat that as a reward and a turn to just rank
wrestlers like "Pro Wrestling Illustrated" did.
But,
then again, fair and equal would be to try and make sense of Women's
Tag Team Championships. I cannot help but find new headaches.
