From Podcasts to Realizing There Are 75 Million American Napoleons
With this week's "NinetyForChill dot Com - The Podcast" lacking a theme, it seems that I let out a lot of my ideas that I would usually rant and rave about in the hour conversation with ThePoeticCritic. Putting that episode up left me feeling that I had pretty much addressed my issues with the "Morbidly Macabre" co-host Mitchell Whitt who took five minutes of his podcast saying I was out of line for sharing a link to the show on Facebook while also pointing out the shortcomings of the episodes for wrestling fans.
It
was not that they got their info about the focus of the episode, Chris
Benoit, wrong because they did not. Their beliefs on what
the wrestling business was/is and how it operates were. Anyone who listens to wrestling
podcasts would be rolling their eyes or yelling at their player for
their misconceptions. In the end, saying that I was upset because they
did not state the flavor of Benoit's essence is the primary host just being bitter.
At
least I got to hear Mitchell's bullshit firsthand. But since he gave away his
strategy to even this out (by conning back on my podcast), I guess he thought that I would not help a friend out. He did not expect me to listen to his podcast.
Maybe he just did that all as a bit, but if you are an adult, handle
those who have supposedly trespassed against you as one. All you had to do was ask
me to elaborate on why I was critical or not to promote your efforts if I
am not 100% satisfied with the end result.
If anything, I would appreciate that feedback. At least you get to determine who the assholes are that way. The only time I really got complaints that were typed up about what I wrote was for "Racism Can Play in Peoria. What About Your Local Wrestling?". There was some acceptable criticism to start. Once one of those parties asked to share the link himself (not stating that he would skew it towards those who he knew it may piss off), the readers he targeted went after me for being bitter and stupid for stating how I was wronged and how the promotion being discussed was in the right to use the confederate flag for promotion. It is just infuriating that instead of addressing with the expectation of learning from it, they go and attack. What is the deal with all of these inferiority complexes?
If I go into that, maybe I will discover that I am the pot calling the kettle black. Kettle please.
I guess my issue is that I feel broken, not inferior. There is nothing that I would change about myself except acting on fortune favoring the bold. It is something that I have been working on, but it leaves me feeling that was a lesson my parents chose not to teach (Per chance the basis of an inferiority complex). That may have been because they picked up my risk taking nature early on, but it is tough for me to figure out how. My fear of the dark was not conquered until junior high and jumping from the high dive never happened.
How and why I get upset is that these assholes who take everything as an attack seem to thrive. The final straw that led me to leave Peoria was realizing the last friend from high school that I had any sense of frequent contact with was only friends with people whom he could use. It may just be short-term rewards, but it may have been nice to be in a position to start a family. Seeing a racist who was incapable of displaying empathy get those opportunities ahead of me does grind my gears. As I said though, this could be diminishing rewards. Read some of his wife's Facebook posts, and you realize that she was his kind of sucker.
I
guess I have a righteous nature. Being right about something that
people doubted you on is rewarding, but it will not get you a wrestling
booking let alone laid. It just feels like quitting if you give up on
focusing on fixing wrongs or expressing ideas that should benefit
everyone. If only my nihilism was a little bit more intense. But then
there would be people suffering and regardless if my life is fleeting, I
do not feel its right to consider everyone else's to be. They need to learn that lesson on their own.
I would probably just be killing some time coming up with the next incarnation for the Men's Duos World Championship if people realize that criticism is about fixing problems. They should never be seen as attacks. If anything, my reaction to it, at worst, is saying that I am just incapable of making a change. What I have going for me is that I at least know the world is not going to accommodate for me.
And it should not. I am a white cis male. This is being brought up because I know that I come from a group that has the most people who can help others and not struggle in doing so. Hence, supporting changes to benefit people not in my group is the right thing to do. So in the end, I have discovered that 75,000,000 Americans have an inferiority complex. The lack of mental health is the true pandemic.

Saw 3D (The Final Chapter): Star Trek of Horror?
Saw 3D (The Final Chapter): Star Trek of Horror?
"Saw" had just reached the same number of "Star Trek (Original Series)" films. With an open ending that may introduce a new character to focus on (Antagonist or protagonist is dependent upon you interpretation of John Kramer's mission.) like "Star Trek: Generations", a new series maybe created. But what makes "Saw" most like "Trek" is that there maybe a number curse to the series (This review was written after seeing this film in theaters.) That is a bit of a stretch since "Saw" and "Saw 5" are worthwhile, but with the quality of this feature, Twisted Pictures may as well called this one "Saw 7"
Det. Hoffman is still carrying on Kramer's work, but vengeance clouds his mind. I suppose having half your face ripped open by Jill Tuck, Kramer's wife and fellow game practitioner, will do that. While Bobby, a man who has become famous by claiming to be a Jigsaw survivor, is being tested, Jigsaw's last known apprentice is planning to settle his score with Tuck and a rival detective from internal affairs.
Hopefully, that description of "Saw 3D: The Final Chapter" did not spoil anything for you. This simplicity maybe what holds the film back from being worthwhile despite brilliant makeup and 3D effects.
The best films in the series are dependent upon being more clever than brutal. "Saw 3D", being the final chapter, horror aficionados Melton and Dunstan felt it was more important to get every gross thing we had not seen than providing a enjoyable story.
To claim this film as awesome, you may need to be a perverse individual. You have to solely enjoy gore. This "Saw" does not justify why it is inescapable. Extreme gore is fun, but only if there is a good reason for it. This is why the first two "Feast" films (written by Dunstan and Melton) were fun, and the third making us call bullshit.
Perhaps Costas Mandylor was misused while Tobin Bell was underused. This film has the highest body count of the series (and perhaps equal to all of the films combined). Most of them are innocents which is unlike the past films while Hoffman is near super human in his march for vengeance. Not only do the games' contestants have hopeless situations, anyone who is not the murderer is as well.
The best thing about "Saw 3D" is the use of 3D. As long as there are thing being constantly thrown at the audience, we ignore how poor the direction is. The traps are also suspenseful, but that may be due to wanting to see at least one person get away.
Do I want there to be a "Saw 8"? Yes, the ending offers a potentially brilliant Jigsaw and there have to still be some great trap ideas left. But like "Saw 4", we need new blood to revive the story.
"Saw 3D is not the worst of the franchise, but it is clear that Patrick Melton and Mark Dunstan have run out of ideas for this franchise. We maybe out of fake blood as well (This is before the abundance of CG blood, so I may have predicted that). With a series that does not require a real villain, how can we be out of good stuff?

She could be the Steve Austin of amateur film experts. I think she does a great job taking the chicken poo that I laid out in front of her and turning it into chicken salad. The cost for this mayo-free meal for the mind, her having me watch the Cinema Snob's review for "Captain America" 1990.

Lance Storm is the Too Legit (Men's Duo Championship) Legend
Is Wizard World in Chicago being bumped to October the start of inconveniences to come? Has not needing to work 10-13 days in a week just made me more tolerant of what troubles me? I say all this knowing that the LIBERTARIAN coworker will have two hours to charge up their discontent about how millennials are soft (except for them) and how the fascists are running the White House when I come into work tomorrow. On the bright side, they will only be here for two hours of my shift.
With all that said, my restraint should be admired for not snapping on them about their preaching how "three strikes and you're out" made the turn of the century safer than today and immediately following that up with turning on a video that endorsed the big lie. It does make me think about mom suggesting that Caterpillar in Morton is hiring again. Dad did advise her that I did that for the better part of two years and not liking it, so that should place that out of her mind. But they do have my little brother's house to get rid of in West Peoria and my coworker does make me think about job openings at the Bloomington branch.
To wrap up my rewind, I may be getting too old to get into too much trouble. My debauchery in Champaign/Urbana is nigh. When I spent the weekend in Morton for my little brother's diaper party (Mom did not appreciate my dyed pink hair for the occasion.), the energy to go out to Downtown Peoria was not there. Thus, there is a bit of an existential crisis. With my most recent ex announcing her engagement, the world seems to be passing me by. Now, I lack the energy to keep up.
Thank the gods then for a quiet wrestling scene. It allows me to focus on DRCW's fun championships instead of WWE refusing to do anything fun with theirs. Discussing the past championships might actually drive salt into my disdain for the current scene, or make me realize the more things change, the more they stay the same. We are just talking about prop titles any how. There is no True Legit Duo's Championship of the 1990's.
This image should indicate that it is pointless to want to fudge my beliefs that the Hollywood Blondes, Money Incorporated, and the Miracle Violence Connection cannot be considered to be true teams. I suppose we could combine the Legit and the Two Legit championships, but there goes the gimmick of my last wrestling blog post.
When it comes to the last Men's Duos World Championship, The Too Legit, we can continue this lineage. Here is to hoping that we can make it to A.J. Styles and Omos.

Evangelion 1.01: You Can(not) Overlook
Am I crazy for entertaining the concept of reinventing the "Star Wars" trilogy? Trekkies gave into J.J. Abrams's concept and ended up embracing it, and the flaws of Lucas's scripts are quite prevalent.
Blasphemy. Well, we would all like to reboot the "Saga". No one can deny that, but when it comes to near perfection (with the exception of "Return of the Jedi"), why bother?
It is because we are starved for greatness and we will take our chances. That is why Hideaki Anno's reboot of "Evangelion" captured the world of anime's attention.
Shinji Ikari has been called to Tokyo-3 by his neglectful father Gendo. When he arrives, the city is under a military state of emergency and a battle with a giant monster ensues. After he is rescued by his chaperone, Lt. Col. Misato Katsuragi, he his escorted to Nerv's headquarters to find out his father's expectations. The primary one of these is for this 14 year-old to pilot a giant robot called Evangelion Unit 01 to defeat the monster.
Should he fail, humanity is lost. But not being able to appreciate his own existence, why should Shinji care about the fate of mankind?
"Evangelion 1.01" is nearly identical in character design to the original television show, but it is far more than just a special edition of the first six episodes. This is a more concise version of the "Evangelion" story with an atmosphere that is more fitting of the dark conclusions of the initial series.
All of the mecha and kaiju have been visually upgraded and the theatrical budge is evident. Since budget held back the production quality of the first series, fans should definitely appreciate the upgrades. That is provided that they can get past the first two acts of the story being exactly like the first four episodes.
It can be frustrating that the "Rebuild of Evangelion's" story does not begin until act three, especially since the comic interactions between Shinji and the supporting cast are all but eliminated. The charm and optimism are removed, so those who did not appreciate the previous two endings that Anno had provided us, they may be left upset.
Those frustrations are worth enduring for the brilliant third act. The new vision and hints of what is coming up left me salivating for the film's sequel. On top of that, the action and drama sequences are greater than anything presented in the first half of the television series.
"Evangelion 1.01" is a great experience that promises even more to come. It provides incite into Anno's true vision that was confined to the restraints of 90's television. It is a darker journey, but well worth enduring for the reward of a new future for the franchise.

Event Horizon - Inspiration for Gory Bastardized Remakes?

Event Horizon - Inspiration for Gory Bastardized Remakes?
I am now on a leave of absence from my retail job, so I am acting like I have more energy. Too bad I am in the midst of a final 10-day work week. It might just be me feeling like I am on a winning streak. Dad already had some free VPN promos so I might have reduced my primary entertainment bill to just $85. That is for Internet and AEW Plus.
"American Gods" season 3 was concluded, so Starz is out of my streaming budget. Without Xfinity TV, my NJPW World subscription should get more use. Hulu is great for lunch breaks at work. HBO is still the best premium network, so I am not cutting that. Shudder is the only thing that I need to jump at adding. ESPN+ will be good for Euro 2020. It is tempting to just change the credit card numbers to my benefactor, but Experian says its good for my credit.
And my sports betting is getting back on track. If I learned anything after my earnings went from $600 to $400 is that the only blue I can trust are the Chicago Cubs. We could spin that into some ACAB humor, but I digress. Anyhow, frustration is the wrong way to react to this. The knowledge that my little brother has some losers (Toronto Maple Leafs) that he lovingly endures is just one more thing to bond over.
Enough of how I have been getting my introverted groove back, let us get into a baiting sub 100-minute movie review. This means I might need to listen to all of my friends' podcast, but do you really need an excuse to rewatch what maybe Paul W.S. Anderson's only classic feature on his resume?
"Event Horizon" is a 1990's horror classic, but I do not even know if it is Anderson's best movie. The man operates from derivatives, so nothing is ever expected of him. But, he is the only director that you expect cool 3-D from, so there is at least a niche he is filling and thus some talent. This leaves me to ponder if that was even present with his first American non-established IP film.
In 2040, the experimental spacecraft Event Horizon traveled to the orbit of Neptune to test its gravity drive. The intention of this was to create a mini black hole that would suck space time in allowing the craft to travel to a different location instantaneously. But the intentions of the craft were not made public, so all anyone is suppose to know is that the ship was lost. So it is quite the surprise for Captain Miller and the crew of the Lewis and Clark to find out that they are suppose to salvage this craft and rescue the crew seven years later.
The crew arrives at the craft to find it in a seemingly state of deep freeze. At subzero temperatures, surely the crew is dead, but life form readings are detectable through out the ship. As the crew inspects the ship, one of them, Justin, tries to turn the power back on. When this occurs, he seems to be sucked into the gravity drive and the accompanying power surge cause a breach of the Clark's hull. To survive, the entire crew has to board the Event Horizon while they wait on repairs to the ship that got them there.
Justin is essentially spat out of the gravity drive in a catatonic state. His rescuer describes the incident to Miller, but his believability is immediately questioned by Dr. Weir. Weir is accompanying the Clark's crew since he was one of the scientist who designed the ship. Logic and physics are soon thrown out the window as other crew members, including Miller, start seeing what can only be considered hallucinations. Miller's lieutenant has a theory. This theory is that whatever the life readings are must be creating these experiences.
Once Justin awakens only to soon enter an air lock without a spacesuit to run from the darkness he saw, surviving becomes paramount to actually finding out what happened. Too bad Dr. Weir does not see it that way.
My synopsis for "Event Horizon" may have excluded the pitch for this feature: Spaceship returns from hell. With that said, going with a gothic horror approach to the premise is unique when you consider that the video game "Doom" is very similar. Horror was on a downturn in the mid 90's as we recovered from 80's slasher fatigue, so this was a brave 60 million dollar gamble on the "Mortal Kombat" director. The initial loss was 20 million, but after home release, it is surprising that there were not attempts to capitalize on the IP.
In the end, the movie ended up managing to be a hit in some form, and that tends to indicate great quality. That quality is provided by the cast and script. Anderson's direction is adequate, but there are not many set pieces that show his strengths when it comes to directing. If anything, it seems to me that the off-and-on auteur can only see in 3-D. I do not find this to be a weakness though when you take in to account how his "Resident Evil" franchise was able to have three additional sequels solely because of 3-D filmmaking's popularity. A 3-D re-release with some polished computer-generated effects would be worth telling streamers to bugger off.
I implied that the special effects are not great when it comes to the CG. They may have been great for the time, but like "Mortal Kombat", FDR/HDR does not do them any favor.
If there was one more flaw, it is the pacing. This is gothic horror on a spaceship which had been done before in the greater classic, "Alien". When you move from one scene to the next without anytime to revel in the horror of the situation, you are watching for the cool suggestive imagery of hell instead of being at the edge of your seat. This is primarily the reason that I am not going to declare this feature to be Anderson's best. I am leaning towards the first "Resident Evil".
As I discussed with Andrew Tiede on NinetyForChill - The Podcast, Anderson seems to have an abundance of cool premises like Ivan Reitman when it comes to talented actors. They are really cannot miss ideas and as long as you catch it all on the frame, it should turn out alright. Unlike Reitman, the script can be lacking. Anderson can make everything look cool enough that you at least have something that can be on mute that fits in a lowly Downstate Illinois dance club. You cannot say that about "Twins".
Returning to the gothic horror elements, was this the feature to inspire the Dark Castle remakes of the late 90's and early 00's? This can be a goreless feature, apart from the air lock scene, but a lot of the films fans are there for the gory sets and eyeball removal. "Alien" was subtle with its gore being limited to the chestbuster. Did Dark Castle see this feature and just pick up on how the feature's devotees talk about the gore? Is this why we have "House on Haunted Hill" and "House of Wax" remakes that lack all of the charm of their predecessors?
"Event Horizon" is a film that had a greater impact than its box office indicates. It is a fun and entertaining bit of horror that has become more camp than it is scary. Too bad that any horror flick between this and torture porn strives to be this film because the hole it started to fill is still quite a void.

The Disgruntled's Real 1980's Men's Doubles Championship and the WWE Releases 2021 ver 3.0
*Blog post was started on June 3, 2021.
The Disgruntled's Real 1980's Men's Doubles Championship and the WWE Releases 2021 ver 3.0
Where to start when it comes to wrestling post "Double of Nothing"? Because there was another large show (Pardon me for avoiding the pun.), did WWE instinctively release talent?
I did not bother to read the Wrestling Inc article about King Baron Corbin responding to fans who thought it should have been him who was released rather than the larger or greater talents (Braun Strowman and Aleister Black to name one from each respective category). If you are going to sell the company, what is the new owner suppose to think of the decision to cut just one of these over talents instead of the one WrestleTalk established as a talent-sucking mid-card vortex? On top of this, these cuts can definitely help out the competition at least in the short run.
With this kind of decision making, it easy to accept that the Disgruntled's Real World Women's Championship is not going over to WWE despite the best match of the biggest pay-per-view of the year. I am sorry, when you have 12 pay-per-views a year, your most important one should end with the babyface on top.
The 48th and Current Disgruntled's Real Women's World Champion: AEW World Champion Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D. (Won from Hikaru Shida on May 30, 2021).
Aside from her being known as the EST, where is the depth to Smackdown's Women's Champion Bianca Belair? Never mind the fact that Sasha Banks did not have any wars between winning that championship from Bayley and her classic at WrestleMania 37?
Every high profile match with Shida is a war. After the Thunder Rosa match gained the entire wrestling world's attention during the middle of a week, Baker was more than prepared for wars. Her preparedness goes all the way back to her pandemic battle with Shida in which she left as the evil equivalent to Becky Lynch.
Every sentence I have just written about Baker are answers. Every sentence that I wrote about Belair were questions. Belair is probably the stronger and her talent maybe at Baker's level, but poor decisions from WWE continue to make their competitor look wiser.
And it looks like they have booked their way into falling behind in whatever I think they have going for them. Who is Sheamus going to lose the United States title to? Ricochet, Humberto Carillo, Xavier Woods? Kofi Kingston is the only person who comes to mind that makes sense, but someone has to wrestle R-K-Bro. The belt is in a holding pattern being on a man who will not soon be in the primary title picture. It is making me regret my lack of foresight in never recognizing Darby Allin as the OCHO Champion.
AEW
and NJPW make me further regret my presumption that Sheamus was the
most proven commodity when it came to secondary champions. Jon Moxley
has been bringing his United States' Championship back to relevance.
AEW's superior booking and unscripted promos brought us the first real threat to the Jackson Brothers claim to being the greatest tag team of all time. Eddie Kingston and Jon Moxley had the chemistry of a team, but that was based on history and their current anti-ELITE angle. We do not expect them to stick to being a tag team, but I think we would have all been fine if they ended the Bucks' reign. The Bucks could keep winning them back like Express was in their name. It is just a testament to the long term planning that AEW has and that WWE lacks to convince us that we would be cool with this change.
The tag team division in AEW remaining in its current form brings me to a suggestion made my Ringer writer and author David Shoemaker who suggested that a tag team wrestling division be created for these hodge podge units like Moxley and Kingston. This is something WWE might want to jump on just to differentiate their tag team product from AEW's. It might allow them to further downplay the importance of team wrestling, so it would serve both the fans and Vince McMahon's prerogative. All we need is a champion.
The Current/Tentative DRCW Men's Doubles World Championship: Raw Tag Team Champions AJ Styles and Omos.
As the title history is established, they may not be the combination to be the champs to beat. Still, they defeated whom WWE is trying to make us believe is the greatest tag team in pro-wrestling at WrestleMania 37 and establish a new and very green talent in Omos. It honestly further elevates the New Day to have done this. And it shows that Cody Rhodes is getting lazy when it comes to creating new superstars. After exposing Anthony Ogogo, it make me wonder if AEW should be developing talent now that they are the destination for the best/most over talents in the United States.
